The Bulawa Wedding {December 4, 2010}
Settlers Bay, Alaska
We were holding our breath and waiting… Alaska in the winter can be unpredictable, as our weather forecasters can attest to. After a week of super high winds, God gave Jessica some really nice calm skies and soft snow the night before her wedding: Just what she had wished for. We still had our bit of Alaska adventure after Jessica’s dad hit a moose on the way to the ceremony site. (Nobody was hurt, and I even think the moose was pretty much undamaged.)
Due to the adventure with the moose, we only had just a few minutes to get Jessica into her dress before we began her portraits….
Jessica’s goal was to have an Alaskan winter wedding, and do most of the photos outside! I love that. I wish all brides were as adventurous!
And there are a few things about Alaska that are hard for us Alaskans… the short days in the winter is a huge one. But we discovered a great way to make use of it! We realized that we get to shoot photos during both sunrise AND sunset during the same wedding! How many places in the world get to do that!? Talk about making lemonade out of lemons! 🙂
We kept her warm with lots of breaks indoors…. and she was such a trooper, never complained, always willing to go outside again!
Jessica and Austin decided to see each other before the wedding, allowing a special time for their first glimpse of each other… and also more time for photos!
Here he comes! (She looks so excited!)
By then we needed to spend some time indoors for warm ups, so we just moved the photos inside.
And outside again for some fun group photos!
Just love this piccie of Jess and her mom -in- law.
And a couple of my favs from the ceremony…
Pretty little details just make a wedding nice:
When the couple joined the reception, they went right into their first dance:
Toasts!
And the father daughter dance was soooo sweet. Jessica just about had me tearing up.
We snuck outside for a few more pretty shots….Ooooh I just love this one:They really wanted to do a running shot… and I was all for it! 🙂 I love the banter in the middle. So fun!
Good job groomsmen! 🙂The reception was super fun! Everyone really enjoyed the dancing! And when the sun began to set, we quickly ran outside again to make use of it! 🙂I love this one where the flash didn’t fire… 🙂This is soooo Jessica’s personality: And they are off! 🙂
It was a really fun day! I appreciated how Jessica and Austin endured our freezing day in order to make some really fun photos! Thanks so much you two! It was a blast!
