Shelton {Wedding}

June 16, 2012
Yvette & John Shelton
Anchorage Museum of History and Art
They say it takes a village to raise a child… but I would say it takes an army of people to make a wedding as gorgeous as this one. Here are a few of the people that helped make the day sparkle:
Gown Retailer: David’s Bridal
Gown Designer: Vera Wang
Hair: Brandy Larson from Headliner Beauty Salon
Makeup: Amber Mock from COR Wax Lash & Cosmetics
Tux Rentals: Men’s Wearhouse
Cake: Aunt Karen Janicek and Tamara Josey of Dessert First
Flowers: Uptown Blossoms
Catering: Marx Brothers
DJ: Martin and Kathy from Alaska Professional Entertainment
Yvette and John have two precious boys… and they sure are adorable in their tiny little tuxes!
The flowers were amazing. Uptown Blossoms, sure did a fantastic job! So unique! I love the green!

John and Yvette’s little boys are certainly adorable… and they took a moment to ham it up for me. 🙂

All the little details of the beautiful Jewish Ceremony, were prepared and laid out in advance… Yvette provided matching Kippahs for all the guests… beside that is a photo of the glass that was broken at the end of the ceremony…

The museum features floor to ceiling windows… I loved the reflections of the little girls in the glass.

This little guy is oblivious of all the hubbub around him thanks to that captivating lollipop.

The Ceremony  was very special with all of the Rabbi’s blessings and fun stories of Yvette and John’s first date and a special talk from Yvette’s Alaskan (make-believe or honorary, haha) uncle.

The ceremony begins!

After the ceremony, we made a few family photos.

I absolutely loved this outtake because to me it portrays the relationships and personalities bride, groom and their parents… who enjoy each other and get along so well.   I cracked up after taking this photo, and one of Yvette’s brothers piped up with this little nugget:

“What do you call the relationship between the parents of the bride and the parents of the groom?

They’re not in-laws, that’s the relationship between the bride herself and the groom’s parents.  And vice-versa.

They’re not really cousins, except in the broadest possible sense of the word.  And it’s so broad that it doesn’t describe them specifically.

Yiddish has the answer. They’re machetunim. (say: mah cheh too nim).  (The ch in “cheh” sounds like clearing your throat)
It’s the only language I know of with a word for that particular part of the new meshuggah mishpochah.  (crazy family).”
Thanks for sending me that Jesse!

The reception was GORGEOUS! Anchorage Museum is beautiful in the best of times… but Yvette’s little touches of color sure made it sparkle. The toasts were hilarious… and heartfelt.  A beautiful cake!

Martin from Alaska Professional Entertainment is always fabulous… Here he is entertaining the kids!  (Oh, and by the way, the little guy spinning the glow band… that is his new trick. He showed it to all who would watch. I love it!)

And of course they danced the Horah to Hava Nagila while the crowd circled and clapped around them.

I just love a good laughing photo.

First dance:About 10:30 or 11pm, the bride, groom and I snuck outside for about ten minutes of photos. I love that Alaska gives us light so late so we still had the opportunity.

Thanks to John and Yvette for the fun! It was a gorgeous and memorable wedding!

And this blog post would not be complete without mentioning my amazing little second shooter for the day: Oxana! She was great! Several of the photos you just enjoyed were taken by her creative lens.

And here is me with Martin from Alaska Professional Entertainment… we switched up roles for a minute. I sure hope he is better with the camera than I am at public speaking and teaching the Cha-Cha Slide! 🙂
